Social Media and Mental Health

Did you know the smart phone is likely the biggest impact on society since the Industrial Revolution? Dr. Phil was recently on The Joe Rogan Experience and made some pretty valid points to take into consideration. Take a look…

So the average person, both adults and children, look at their phone 352 times per day that’s crazy, right?! Think about the social impact that has on this generation. Think about it. Most kids are not growing up and living life like the previous generation.

Social media encourages comparison. And let’s be honest, most of what’s shown is not the whole story or all as glamorous as it is portrayed. But comparison is a thug that robs you of joy. A lot of children and young adults are spending more time watching people live their lives online than living their own life. This in turn leads to depression, low self esteem, and sometimes even self harm or suicide. Look it up, the stats are out there and it’s alarming.

Take what you will from this, but check on your family and friends. Make real life connections and memories. Encourage social activities, life goals, and let them know how special they are.
